3D Art Production - Barrel

Monday 21st September 2015

Barrel 3D Model

We followed a guide to produce a 3D model of a barrel using Autodesk Maya 2016 and Photoshop. The guide we followed had some mistakes within it and parts were very unclear which made it hard to create something in a software I'd never used before but when I got stuck I managed to find useful information by trial and error and YouTube video tutorials online. With some mistakes along the way I managed to produce the image below.

Life Drawing - Session 01

Wednesday 23rd September 2015

Today was the first lesson of life drawing, in the past I've had roughly three sessions of life drawing and this was about a year and a half ago so I am out of practice. I found it difficult at first but gradually got more confident and I believe the quality of my sketches increased as the session went on.

Visual Design - Robot Digital Art

Robot Digital Art

We began digital drawing in our first lesson today and produced a speed painting of a robot in Photoshop. It was my first time using a drawing tablet and I wanted to get used to drawing lines with the pen and tablet so I drew an outline from eye of the reference Image and then adjusted the sizing and shapes using the lasso and transform tools. I then went on to shade the whole robot in a medium grey and then used the burn and dodge tools to produce shadows and lighting on the robot. I finished off the drawing by using the paint brush tool to draw in any extra black/ white where necessary to make the image stand out more. To improve or if I had more time I could have added in a background and shadows or tried blocking in colour instead of using an outline method.

Visual Design - Robot Sketches

Monday 21st September 2015

Robot Sketches

I initially researched some of the robots used in video games and thought the idea of animal-like robots was interesting, for example Metal Sonic (The evil twin of Sonic the Hedgehog, found in Sonic CD originally and throughout the franchise) is a prime example of a robotic animal or DOg from Half-life 2 (2004) who looked like a typical robot but had the characteristics of a dog, often acting loyal and proving helpful in certain situations to its owner.
I also liked the idea of large battle robots like those found in War of the Worlds (2005) or The Incredibles (2004). I searched for reference images and came up with the designs below.
I then went on to produce some original deigns of a cute character robot and a cyborg type of robot.
